Waikoloa Beach Resort
Big Island of Hawaii
The Waikoloa Kings’ Course, opened in 1990, was brilliantly designed with a Scottish links theme by British Open champion Tom Weiskopf and architect Jay Morrish. Its 7,074 yards consist of wide fairways curving through jagged lava rocks and natural brushland stretched before a Mauna Kea backdrop. Accented by 83 strategically placed bunkers and six risky water features, each of the Kings’ 18 holes presents a unique challenge to novice and skilled players alike. The Kings' Grille serves delicious breakfasts from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and lunches from 11 to 3 p.m. Cocktails are available until 6 p.m. This casual restaurant overlooking the Kings' Course 18th hole features a unique architectural design with an open dining room lined with tall windows, a library, and banquet facilities.
The Waikoloa Beach Course features a glorious coastal layout with extensive views of Mauna Kea to the Pacific Ocean that stretch to neighboring islands on clear days. Opened in 1981, the Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed course spreads over 6,566 yards of winding bermuda grass built into ancient lava flows. Daunting crests of black rock and water features appear at various stages to test the golfer's skill. The highlight of the course is the 502-yard par-five twelth hole, offering both a signficant challenge and a well-earned panoramic ocean view. Buzz's Sand Trap restaurant, located near the Shores and Vista condominiums on Keana Place, offers fine dining amid tranquil views of the Beach Golf Course. It is open daily for dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
